Portions of Lake Shasta Caverns are under permit from the United States Department of Agriculture, U.S. Forest Service, Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
For those of you who enjoy the excitement of gold panning, we have our gemstone sluice. After purchasing a bag of mining rough, one can walk to our sluice and have fun finding and identifying the gemstone or fossils that appear.
Some of the gemstones that one might find include: Aventurine, Quartz, Peridot, Ruby, Topaz, Crystal Points, Sapphire, Obsidian, Moon Stone, Amethyst, Emerald, Fluorite, Amazonite, Blue Calcite, Citrine Pyrite Garnet, and three different type of Quartz: Raspberry Smokey and Rose.
Some of the fossils that one might find include: Amber, Trilobite, Petrified Wood, Ammonite, Gastropod, Brachiopod, Pelecypod, Orthoceras, Crinoids, Sea Urchins, Shark Teeth and three different types of Coral: Sponge, Sea and Horn.
Designed with education in mind, our new “Rock Box” offers little spelunkers the ability to experience cave exploring in a safe environment. The Rock Box offers a 6 foot climbing wall, a climbing tunnel, climbing rock and a tree house carved out of oak! Future additions to the Rock Box will include shade structure and a fossil dig.
